The Great Wall of Baskets (a basket wall tutorial)

I love baskets to begin with, so when I saw the basket wall trend taking off...I knew I would end up doing one in our home. I love the texture, color, and dimension it adds to a space. When making mine, I also knew that I wanted to do it as affordable as possible, while still achieving the same end result. So here is how I did just that!

Originally, I was going to make one large basket wall on the wall in our dining room area. When I hung everything, I was instantly annoyed that the view was disrupted by the light fixture. A little frustrated and discouraged, I scanned the rest of our living room (we have a really open concept home) and realized I could split the baskets into two smaller clusters, and put them on either side of our entertainment center. I am SO glad that I did, because I love how it turned out!

Let's talk baskets!

Something that may be a deterrent from doing a basket wall is the cost of buying the baskets themselves. I did a good bit of research to find styles that I liked and saw that woven placemats and chargers would work really well! The idea is to get a collection that varies in size, shape, texture, design, and even color. Here are the ones that I ended up going with. They are all shoppable pictures that will take you directly to the site where I bought them:

Once you collect your baskets, then you have to think about arranging them. I laid all mine out on the floor and then stood on a chair to take a picture, so I could reference it as I was hanging them. I've also seen people use little pieces of painter's tape to help them line up the baskets as they are hung.

I was nervous about putting too many nail holes in the walls, so I opted to use Command velcro strips! The trick is to hot glue the piece of velcro that you attach to the basket (the sticky isn't strong enough to hold on). This is nice for two reasons: no nail holes AND you have a little bit of wiggle room in terms of adjusting placement.

Overall, I am really happy with how mine turned out. I would say all in, I spent $45 and it has made a huge statement in our living room. Using the velcro, I can easily interchange other baskets throughout the seasons if I want to. I hope that this sparks some joy and ideas for your own home!

Happy DIYing,

Laura
